One of the most gratifying parts of collecting autographs and hockey memorabilia is obtaining autographs of primarily retired hockey stars through the mail. I simply write a letter to the player asking a few questions and enclose a few cards for autographs. I also include a self addressed return envelope and send it on its merry way. Their is a forum on the website Internet Hockey Database entitled Where are they Now? in which members write in with successful addresses of primarily retired players who have signed cards and returned them. Players range from Johnny Bower and Guy Lafleur to Tom Miller and Gerry Hart in skill but when the players answer questions as to who had the hardest shot, was the fastest skater , or best teammate it does not matter who it is.
I strongly recommend assembling some old cards, researching and writing a meaningful letter, and finding some addresses. You will enjoy the results. I will share with you in future editions of this blog some of my best returns. Until later happy collecting.
